Ohio trio Vanity Theft are hitting the road in two weeks behind the release of their upcoming EP, The Right Amount of Distance, out May 8 on Adamant Records.  The blue collar girls from southern Ohio will tour with New York’s Enemies!.

A rock band, a live band and above all else a touring band, Vanity Theft have been playing together since high school when they were almost a punk outfit.  “With catchy guitar riffs, an in-your-face sound, and lyrics that are, ahem, straight to the point, this band is determined to set themselves apart from a sea of frilly pop,” says Nylon.

“Until two years ago, we never really thought as a band we would get out of Ohio,” says Vanity Theft. “We’re all usually pretty broke which can be lethal in NYC or LA but survivable in Dayton.  When we got out on the road we realized we’d rather to be in the van most of the year than be at home in Dayton.  Thats not to say that like most Ohioans we are not proud of where we’re from, its just that when we come home its not to Brooklyn or Silverlake… its a lot of subdivisions, strip malls, churches, fields and a lot of abandoned factories. We write faster than touring allows us to record.”

Vanity Theft recorded The Right Amount of Distance while at a ranch in Austin for a week to record. Their fifth release, technically sixth since in high school, the band recorded an album that resembles a punk band with screaming teenagers, kind of thing that would be fit for an obscure tape label.

“We have always been some pretty no-frills kids so we just went in to cut a ‘no-frills, back-in-dayton-after-a-year-in-the-van’ EP, and then went back on the road, and we probably won’t be back until xmas. Which is fine.”

Enemies! aka guitarist and singer Aaron Lee Tasjan, began last September as a fully realized representation of 26 year old Tasjan’s music.  As one of the most sought after guitarists in New York, Tasjan has filled the roll of lead guitar for everyone from The New York Dolls to most recently, Alberta Cross.  Tasjan continued to gain notoriety as the front man for NYC’s own Madison Square Gardeners whom the Village Voice declared “..the best NYC has to offer,” in 2010.  Along the way he’s also managed to co-write the world’s first 3-sided 7″ single, “I Believe In Elvis Presley” with BP Fallon which was produced by Jack White and released on 3rd Man Records.  He currently also plays in BP Fallon & The Bandits along with the original Blondie Rock’n'Roll Hall Of Fame rhythm section Nigel Harrison and Clem Burke.  Tasjan has produced and played guitar on the Bandits debut record which also includes keyboard work from the one and only Ian McLagan of the Small Faces.

Now Tasjan takes center stage under the moniker Enemies! with his new record Desolation Dream.  The album was produced by Adam Lasus (Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, PJ Harvey, Yo La Tengo), and is a raw collection of buzz-snap, cough syrupy, fuzzed out songs that are also remarkably melodic.  Described as “…kick ass Rock’n'Roll,” by Chris Martin of The Examiner the album is as loud and ferocious as the guitar playing for which Tasjan has come to be known.  Desolation Dream will be available digitally starting May 8th via First Of Three Records.
