A soulful singer of wry, original songs, Ethan Lipton delivers tales of misfortunate everymen in deft, lyrical packages. Popmatters calls Lipton, “A sardonic voice that offers an unlikely kind of comfort against the vagaries of everyday life.”

The songs of Ethan Lipton & His Orchestra are steeped in American traditions of yore (jazz, blues, country, lounge), but his subjects are thoroughly modern (internet romance, racism, pets, police).  It all adds up to a hilariously cockeyed view of an odd, disjointed age as Ethan Lipton & His Orchestra release their sophomore studio album HONKER on June 29, 2010.

Lipton is joined by his incomparable “Orchestra” of Eben Levy (guitar), Ian Riggs (upright bass) & Vito Dieterle (sax), a trio that’s now been with him for over five years.  Matt Berninger (The National) also appears on Ethan’s forthcoming studio release on the track “When You Die” and joined Lipton onstage when the band opened for The National at The Bell House in March.  Also on the track is Cynthia Hopkins from Gloria Deluxe and the students of Dryden Middle School.
